Movie Response
I liked watching the movie “Do the
Right Thing” because it was funny and it had some good hidden points throughout
the whole movie. The movie had a lot of racism in it because the Pino was
racist to the whole black community. Also, there was a dispute between Bugging
Out and Sal over the fact that Sal doesn’t have famous African American people
on his in wall but he does have famous Italian people. There was also in
incident involving Radio Raheem and Sal where the police had to get involved
and use an illegal chokehold on Radio Raheem and killed him which sparked a
huge riot in the community that ended up Sal’s pizzeria being burned down to
the ground. The conflicts in the movie relate to the conflicts that are
happening now because they both are racist related and also police brutality related.
One part of the movie that really stood out to me was when Bugging Out yelled
at Clifton over the fact that he stepped on his brand-new shoes and also
because Clifton shoved Bugging Out without saying excuse me. This stood out because
during the conversation Clifton said, “I’m under the assumption that this is a
free country and one can live where he pleases.” (Lee 32) Bugging Out overreacted
to Clifton’s statement but it was more due to the fact that Bugging Out thinks
that just because in the past African Americans were stepped on, doesn’t mean
he can be now. “Doing the Right Thing” is a movie that I enjoyed watching and
it has very interesting ideas in it which can relate to the real world now.
